SK hynix to Invest 54 Trillion Won in AI Memory Fabs
SK hynix will invest about 54 trillion won in new fabs in Yongin and Cheongju for AI memory production, the company said in a press release. The board approved 35.2 trillion won for the Yongin Y2 fab and 19.1 trillion won for the Cheongju M17 fab.
Yongin Y2 will be the second of four fabs planned for the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster. It will cover about 1,130,000 square meters and produce high bandwidth memory and other DRAM products. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2027, with the first cleanroom planned for June 2029. The investment runs to October 2031.
Cheongju M17 will be built for NAND production and will cover about 680,000 square meters. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2027, with the first cleanroom planned for December 2028. The investment period runs through April 2031.
Cleanroom expansions and equipment installation are planned in stages based on customer demand. The Yongin site is also preparing support buildings, an integrated research and development center, and power and water infrastructure for Y2 operations.
