Sep 16, 2026
Ping An Insurance says its Traffic Lights program uses AI, claims records, weather information and road data to identify accident risks. The program has upgraded more than 4,900 high risk road sections across China.

Ping An Insurance said in a press release that its Traffic Lights program uses AI, big data, historical claims, accident records, weather information and road scene data to identify road safety risks before accidents occur. Launched nationwide in July 2025, the program covered all 31 provincial regions in China by August 2026.

Ping An said the program upgraded more than 4,900 high risk road sections, installed over 50,000 sets of safety equipment and conducted more than 2,500 education campaigns. The campaigns reached more than 690 million people.

During the 2026 Spring Festival travel period, Ping An deployed 224 Internet of Things weather stations across 56 vulnerable road sections in Guizhou. It also used BeiDou equipped drones with night vision for expressway patrols in Hunan.

At 1,620 high risk intersections managed under the program, claims fell 50.4% from a year earlier during the February 15 to 23 Spring Festival holiday and 32.1% during the May 1 to 5 International Labor Day holiday, according to Ping An. Average property loss per claim declined 19.3% and 20.4% during the respective periods.
