Pearson Report Finds UK Teachers Lack AI Readiness and Training
Pearson has published new data showing that UK educators are concerned about how well schools are preparing students for an AI-driven future, announced in a press release. The Pearson School Report 2025, based on responses from over 14,000 teachers and education professionals, found that 44% of secondary and 31% of primary teachers believe students are not adequately equipped for the impact of artificial intelligence.
The report highlights that while many teachers recognize AI’s potential in education, 23% are not confident using AI tools, and only 9% feel confident teaching about them. Nearly half of respondents said AI should be included in teacher training programs, and 43% identified AI training for staff as essential to improving students’ digital skills.
Pearson has introduced several initiatives to address this skills gap. These include the Generative AI Foundations Certification launched in October 2024, the short course 'AI Essentials' developed with Basingstoke College of Technology, and the Extended Project Qualification pathway 'EPQ:AI' for students in the UK and abroad. The company also offers a BTEC Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals course covering the basics of AI and machine learning.
Educators and organizations cited in the report emphasized the need for investment in training and infrastructure to ensure teachers can effectively integrate AI into classrooms and prepare students for an increasingly digital economy.
