OpenAI has introduced GPT-Realtime, its most advanced speech-to-speech model, enhancing the capabilities of voice agents with new features and reduced pricing. The model, announced in a press release, is designed to improve the naturalness and expressiveness of speech, making it more adept at following complex instructions and calling tools with precision.

The GPT-Realtime model includes two new voices, Marin and Cedar, and updates to existing voices to enhance natural-sounding speech. It also supports new API capabilities such as remote MCP server support, image input, and SIP phone calling, allowing developers to build more reliable and production-ready voice agents.

The model demonstrates significant improvements in benchmarks, scoring 82.8% accuracy on the Big Bench Audio evaluation and 66.5% on the ComplexFuncBench audio eval. Additionally, OpenAI has reduced the price of the Realtime API by 20%, making it a more attractive option for developers looking to create advanced voice-first experiences.
