OpenAI Models and Codex Now Available on AWS Bedrock
OpenAI and AWS have expanded their partnership to make OpenAI models, Codex, and Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents available in limited preview, according to Amazon. The launch allows enterprises to use OpenAI’s latest models directly within AWS environments, combining frontier AI capabilities with existing infrastructure, security, and compliance systems.
The announcement follows OpenAI’s renegotiated agreement with Microsoft, which cleared the way for multi-cloud availability of its products. Starting today, AWS customers can access OpenAI frontier models through Amazon Bedrock APIs and controls, integrating model use with AWS services such as identity management, encryption, and audit logging.
Codex, OpenAI’s coding agent used by millions of developers, is now accessible through Amazon Bedrock. Customers can deploy Codex via the Bedrock API using the Codex CLI, desktop app, or Visual Studio Code extension, with usage counting toward their AWS commitments.
Amazon Bedrock Managed Agents, powered by OpenAI, are also available in limited preview. The service enables enterprises to deploy agents that perform multi-step tasks, maintain context, and integrate with AWS security and governance systems. This offering is designed to simplify production deployment of AI agents while maintaining the enterprise-grade standards of AWS.
