OpenAI limits paid ChatGPT accounts per card and device

ChatGPT can now block subscription purchases when too many paid accounts are associated with the same card or device. The restrictions apply to Go, Plus and several Pro plans.

OpenAI says on its support site that ChatGPT can block a subscription purchase when too many subscriptions are associated with the same payment card or device. It also limits how many paid accounts can be used on one device, although OpenAI does not specify the maximum number.

The device limits apply to ChatGPT Go, ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Pro 100, ChatGPT Pro 200 and ChatGPT Pro 500. ChatGPT Free and Business, Enterprise and Edu workspace plans do not count toward the limit. Signing out does not guarantee that another paid account can be used on the device.

Affected users may use another permitted account, buy eligible credits on an existing account or wait for usage to reset. Users who believe a restriction is incorrect can contact support. ChatGPT and Google Play customers can also request cancellation and a refund through the device warning, while Apple customers must use Apple's process.
