OpenAI has launched GPT-4.5, codenamed 'Orion', its largest AI model to date, announced on their website. The model is available to ChatGPT Pro users and developers worldwide as part of a research preview. GPT-4.5 emphasizes unsupervised learning, aiming to enhance pattern recognition and creative insights without relying on reasoning.

Despite its size, GPT-4.5 is not considered a frontier model by OpenAI. It is designed to improve user interaction by offering a more natural conversational experience, with a broader knowledge base and higher emotional intelligence. However, the model is expensive to run, prompting OpenAI to evaluate its long-term availability in their API.

GPT-4.5 is accessible to ChatGPT Pro users immediately, with plans to roll it out to ChatGPT Plus and Team users next week. Developers on paid tiers of OpenAI's API can also start using the model today. OpenAI is keen to explore the model's capabilities and how users will apply it in unexpected ways.

The model's performance on AI benchmarks shows mixed results, excelling in some areas while falling short in others. OpenAI plans to combine its GPT series with its reasoning series in future models, starting with GPT-5 later this year.
