OpenAI Introduces A-SWE: An AI Software Engineer
OpenAI is preparing to launch a new AI agent named A-SWE, or Agentic Software Engineer, which is designed to handle software engineering tasks along with quality assurance and bug testing. This announcement was made by OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar during a discussion with Goldman Sachs. A-SWE is expected to perform tasks typically done by software engineers, such as building applications, conducting its own quality assurance, and managing bug testing and documentation.
Friar emphasized that A-SWE is not just an augmentation of current tools like Copilot but a comprehensive agent capable of independently executing tasks that are often avoided by human engineers. This development follows OpenAI's previous releases of AI agents, Operator and Deep Research, which are currently available to ChatGPT's paying customers.
