OpenAI's Image Generator Now Free for All Users

OpenAI has made its image generator, powered by the GPT-4o model, available to all users, including those on the free tier. This update was announced by CEO Sam Altman in a post on X, where he confirmed the rollout to free users. Previously, the feature was restricted to paying users of ChatGPT.

While the exact number of images that free users can generate remains unspecified, Altman had previously mentioned a limit of three images per day. The image generator quickly gained popularity for its ability to create images in the style of Studio Ghibli, raising discussions about copyright and the training data used.

The tool's launch saw a surge in demand, with Altman humorously noting that the company's GPUs were "melting" due to the high usage. Despite the challenges, OpenAI continues to expand its offerings, recently raising $40 billion in funding, valuing the company at $300 billion.
