OpenAI Enhances Codex with GPT-5-Codex for Advanced Coding Tasks

OpenAI has released GPT-5-Codex, an enhanced version of its AI coding agent, Codex. This new model is designed to tackle complex programming tasks more efficiently, with the ability to dynamically adjust its processing time based on task difficulty. GPT-5-Codex can operate independently for extended periods, reportedly working on tasks for up to seven hours without user intervention.

The model is now available to users of ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu, and Enterprise plans, with plans to extend availability to API customers. GPT-5-Codex outperforms its predecessor, GPT-5, on several coding benchmarks, including SWE-bench Verified and code refactoring tasks. It has been specifically trained for code reviews, providing more accurate and impactful comments compared to previous models.

GPT-5-Codex is accessible through various platforms, including terminals, IDEs, GitHub, and ChatGPT, making it a versatile tool for developers. The model's ability to handle both short interactive sessions and long, complex tasks positions it as a competitive option in the growing market for AI coding tools.
