The Open Source Initiative (OSI) is searching for a new executive director as Stefano Maffulli steps down to focus on Open Source AI and data governance.

The Open Source Initiative (OSI) has announced a search for a new executive director as Stefano Maffulli prepares to step down in October. Maffulli, who has been with OSI since 2021, will be focusing on Open Source AI and data governance. During his tenure, OSI expanded its global partnerships and strengthened its role in public policy and AI governance, announced in a press release.

Deborah Bryant, OSI Board Member Emeritus and former US Policy Director, has been appointed as interim executive director. Under Maffulli's leadership, OSI released the Open Source AI Definition (OSAID) 1.0 and transitioned from a volunteer-run organization to a professionally managed nonprofit. The organization plans to conduct a comprehensive and inclusive process to select its next leader, ensuring continued growth and modernization.
