NVIDIA is evaluating a $500 million investment in the UK-based self-driving technology startup Wayve. This potential investment is part of Nvidia's broader initiative to support AI startups in the UK, with a total commitment of £2 billion ($2.6 billion). Wayve has confirmed the signing of a letter of intent with Nvidia to explore this strategic investment in its upcoming funding round.

Wayve, founded in 2017, is known for its innovative self-driving software that employs a self-learning approach rather than relying on high-definition maps. This technology is designed to work with existing vehicle sensors, making it attractive to automakers. The startup's latest platform, integrated into Ford Mach E test vehicles, utilizes Nvidia's GPUs and the Nvidia Drive AGX Thor development kit to offer advanced driving-assistance systems and Level 4 driverless features.

Nvidia's interest in Wayve aligns with its strategy to enhance the UK's AI startup ecosystem, supported by venture capital firms such as Accel, Air Street Capital, Balderton, Hoxton Ventures, and Phoenix Court. The investment discussions follow Nvidia's participation in Wayve's previous $1.05 billion Series C funding round.
