Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly Dominate GLP-1 Mentions in AI Weight Loss Searches

May 20, 2026
A new report from 5WPR shows that Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly account for nearly all GLP-1 citations across AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, with their brands controlling 57% of total mentions in the weight loss category.

Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly and Company now account for nearly all GLP-1 citations within AI tools used for weight loss research, according to a press release by 5WPR. The Weight Loss and Metabolic Health AI Visibility Index 2026 found that the two companies’ brands dominate content surfaced by ChatGPT, Claude by Anthropic, Perplexity AI, and Google AI Overviews.

Five GLP-1 receptor agonists—Wegovy, Zepbound, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Saxenda—together capture 57 percent of all category citations. The first four account for 55 percent. Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly are currently the only companies providing FDA-approved options for chronic weight management and the only sources of peer-reviewed clinical data cited by AI models.

The report analyzed more than 60 consumer prompts across five subcategories, including pharmaceutical GLP-1s, behavioral programs, diet and nutrition apps, packaged meal services, and supplements. Behavioral programs such as Noom and WeightWatchers have maintained visibility through GLP-1 integration, while legacy programs like Jenny Craig and Nutrisystem have lost prominence in AI-generated answers.

The full index, which details brand rankings, citation dynamics, and methodology, is available as a public download from 5WPR.
