Fintel Connect Finds Affiliate Pages Lead AI Financial Product Citations
Fintel Connect said in a press release that its study analyzed 2,400 responses and 7,809 source citations across ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini. The research covered consumer credit cards, business credit cards, personal lending and high yield savings accounts.
The study found that 90% of decision stage prompts produced a citation, compared with 8.8% of awareness stage prompts. Prompts containing terms related to urgency or recency, as well as words such as "best" and "which," received citations 87% of the time. Explainer and advice prompts received citations in 8% to 17% of cases.
More than 54% of recommendation answers cited an affiliate page, with the strongest presence at the decision stage. Across all responses, 50% included no source citation.
