News/Media Alliance Partners with ProRata for AI Licensing

The News/Media Alliance has announced a new AI licensing framework with ProRata AI to ensure fair compensation for publishers using generative AI.

The News/Media Alliance has announced a new AI licensing framework agreement with ProRata.ai, aimed at ensuring fair compensation for publishers whose content is used by generative AI systems. Announced in a press release, this partnership allows Alliance members to opt into a content license with ProRata AI's Gist.AI product.

ProRata's technology will identify when publisher content is used in AI-generated answers, attribute it to the original creators, and compensate them accordingly. The agreement stipulates that 50% of all revenues from Gist.AI will be shared with publishers. Notable members such as McClatchy, the Atlantic, and the MIT Technology Review are already participating as content partners.

This initiative by the News/Media Alliance aims to address the challenges posed by the widespread use of publisher content by AI companies without compensation. By facilitating access to multiple publishers, the Alliance seeks to streamline content sourcing for AI companies, reducing transaction costs and promoting responsible content usage.
