September 02, 2025
Microsoft has announced a deal with the US General Services Administration to provide its Copilot AI services for free to millions of federal government workers, aiming to save taxpayers $3.1 billion in the first year.

In a significant move to enhance AI adoption within the US government, Microsoft Corporation has announced a partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) to provide its Microsoft Copilot AI services at no cost to millions of federal government workers. This initiative is expected to save taxpayers $3.1 billion in its first year.

The agreement includes a full year of Microsoft 365 Copilot for government workers using the high-security G5 license, which is designed for departments handling sensitive information. This effort aligns with the administration's AI Action Plan, aiming to integrate modern AI tools into government operations to improve efficiency and service delivery.

The deal also offers significant discounts on Azure cloud services and eliminates data transfer fees, facilitating easier technology modernization across various government departments. Security remains a priority, with Microsoft's core cloud and AI services already meeting FedRAMP High security standards, and Copilot expected to receive full certification soon.

Additionally, Microsoft is investing $20 million in support and training to ensure effective implementation of these technologies, with workshops planned to help agencies maximize the benefits of the new tools. The overall package is projected to deliver over $6 billion in value over the next three years.
