Meta Plans 5GW AI Data Center to Boost AI Capabilities

Meta is constructing a 5GW AI data center named Hyperion in Louisiana, as announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This move aims to enhance Meta's AI capabilities and competitiveness.

Meta Platforms, Inc. is constructing a massive AI data center named Hyperion, which is expected to provide five gigawatts (GW) of computational power, according to TechCrunch. This development was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Threads.

The Hyperion data center, located in Richland Parish, Louisiana, is part of Meta's strategy to enhance its AI capabilities and compete with industry leaders like OpenAI and Google. Initially announced as a two GW super cluster in 2024, Hyperion is now set to scale to five GW over several years.

In addition to Hyperion, Meta plans to bring another one GW super cluster, Prometheus, online in 2026. Prometheus will be located in New Albany, Ohio, and is part of Meta's broader effort to control large-scale AI data centers. These initiatives are expected to significantly boost Meta's ability to train and serve advanced AI models.

The construction of these data centers underscores Meta's commitment to expanding its AI infrastructure, potentially attracting more talent and positioning the company as a formidable competitor in the AI space.
