Marvell in Advanced Talks to Buy Lumentum
Marvell Technology, Inc. is in advanced talks to acquire Lumentum Holdings Inc., with an agreement possible as soon as next week, Reuters reports, citing a source; Bloomberg News first reported the talks. Neither company immediately commented.
Lumentum makes optical components for communications networks and data centers. The products support faster data transmission for AI workloads.
The deal would extend Marvell's push into optical technology for AI infrastructure after its $3.25 billion purchase of photonics firm Celestial AI. Bernstein analysts said an acquisition of this size would likely require additional financing. Marvell had $3.92 billion in cash and equivalents at the end of its latest quarter, while Lumentum had a market value of about $83 billion. Lumentum shares rose about 9% in extended trading after the report, while Marvell shares fell more than 8%.
