Kahlert Foundation Donates $5.2 Million to Launch Applied AI Institute at Utah Valley University
Utah Valley University (UVU) has received a $5.2 million donation from the Kahlert Foundation to establish the Kahlert Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute, announced in a press release. The new institute aims to position UVU as a national leader in applied and ethical AI education.
The Kahlert Applied AI Institute will integrate education, research, and workforce development to prepare students for careers in AI-related fields. It will provide access to AI tools, mentorship, and hands-on learning experiences for students across disciplines including healthcare, business, engineering, and the arts.
The institute builds on UVU’s existing AI-focused initiatives, such as its partnerships with NVIDIA and the university’s AI apprenticeship program, which offers training and industry collaboration. With the new funding, UVU plans to expand faculty training and develop AI-enhanced academic programs.
Located near Utah’s Silicon Slopes technology hub, the institute will serve as a hub for collaboration with technology companies, entrepreneurs, and policymakers. The initiative is designed to align academic programs with workforce needs and prepare graduates for roles in AI-driven industries.
