ISRO Experts Say AI and Quantum Tech Will Support India Satellite Systems

Former ISRO experts at Chandigarh University's National Space Technology Conclave 2026 said AI, machine learning, quantum technology, and inter satellite links will support India's future satellite systems, including onboard processing, secure navigation, and space surveillance.

Chandigarh University said in a press release that former ISRO experts discussed the use of AI, machine learning, quantum technology, and inter satellite links in India's upcoming satellite systems at the National Space Technology Conclave 2026.

Dr. Nilesh M Desai, former director of ISRO's Space Applications Centre, said onboard processing and edge computing with AI and machine learning could allow satellites to process data in space. He said this could support faster information use for governance, planning, policymaking, and disaster management.

Desai also said quantum technology could support security for financial transactions, banking, stock market operations, military communications, and other sensitive networks. He said ISRO is strengthening secure navigation capabilities to address threats such as spoofing, where false signals can mislead navigation receivers.

Dr. Anil Kumar, former director of the ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network, said space debris remains a risk for operational spacecraft. He said India is monitoring its satellites, supporting international guidelines, and participating in global forums on space sustainability.
