Hewlett Packard Enterprise has been awarded a $931 million contract by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to modernize its data centers using a hybrid multi-cloud solution. The 10-year agreement aims to enhance the agency’s infrastructure through a secure, private cloud environment deployed via HPE’s GreenLake platform.

Under the contract, HPE will implement an on-premises, air-gapped system designed to unify DISA’s IT resources through a single management platform. The initiative will consolidate multiple existing environments operated by DISA’s J9 Hosting and Compute directorate into a centralized hybrid cloud system.

The GreenLake-based environment will enable DISA to manage both on-premises and commercial cloud services through one control plane. It is expected to support multi-tenancy, virtual private clouds, and a zero-trust architecture while improving scalability and automation. The platform will also provide capabilities for advanced data analytics and AI applications.

The award follows a successful prototype phase that began in April 2024, during which HPE demonstrated a distributed hybrid multi-cloud solution for the agency. This modernization effort is part of DISA’s broader Cloud Instance initiative, which seeks to streamline operations and enhance command and control missions across global defense networks.
