House Democrats seek Trump's AI chatbot records
Democratic leaders from the U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the House Judiciary Committee asked President Donald Trump to preserve official conversations with AI chatbots, according to their letter. The request follows reports that Trump consulted Grok, the chatbot from xAI, about how Venezuelans might respond to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro.
Representatives Robert Garcia and Jamie Raskin requested preservation of prompts submitted by Trump, White House staff and Executive Office advisers while performing official duties, along with chatbot responses. The request covers Grok, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, India Today reported.
The lawmakers said the Presidential Records Act classifies those prompts and responses as presidential records owned by the United States. They also requested a closed briefing on Trump's use of AI chatbots and White House policies for preserving, securing and monitoring those records. India Today reported that they asked for the briefing by 5 p.m. on November 11.
