George Washington University announced on its website that it is a founding partner in Project ProtoStar, an open science initiative with Hugging Face and other research institutions. The project will make publicly funded datasets, models and code easier for people and AI systems to find, understand and reuse.

GW will create a space on Hugging Face for data, code and AI models from university research. Its Open Source Program Office will help researchers use the platform and bring ProtoStar challenges to the university community.

Other founding partners include Carnegie Mellon University, Purdue University, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Arizona State University and the Astera Institute. Hugging Face will provide infrastructure, while the Open Research Community Accelerator will serve as the community partner.
