Sanders and Democrats renew calls for data center moratoriums after the midterms

Bernie Sanders and other Democrats called for pauses on data center construction and advanced AI development after midterm victories and voter approval of local restrictions.

Several Democrats renewed calls for restrictions on AI infrastructure following midterm victories and voter approval of local data center limits, according to CNBC. Bernie Sanders called for an immediate national moratorium on data center construction. "Americans don't want Big Tech oligarchs wrecking the environment, gutting jobs and threatening humanity's future," he wrote on X, The Guardian reported.

Arizona Representative Yassamin Ansari said the new Democratic House majority should prioritize a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of the industry and a ban on artificial superintelligence. Congressional Progressive Caucus chair Greg Casar endorsed her proposal.

The Guardian said the calls add to tech industry worries about delays to its multi-trillion dollar AI infrastructure buildout. Texas, home to 27% of planned US data center capacity according to Wells Fargo, is one of the states to watch, CNBC noted.

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
