DataSpots Secures Approval for Major Data Center Projects in Brazil
DataSpots, a Brazilian company specializing in data center development, has secured approval from ONS, the national network operator, for eight new data center projects. These projects, with a combined investment of approximately 15 billion reais ($2.74 billion), will be located in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Paraná, Santa Catarina, and Rio Grande do Sul.
The first project in Atibaia, São Paulo, will benefit from its proximity to fiber optic routes and high-capacity substations, ensuring low latency and efficient energy access. This facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 with an investment of 3 billion reais ($548 million).
In Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, the second project will leverage its coastal location for direct access to international submarine cables. This initiative involves an investment of 6 billion reais ($1.96 billion) and is scheduled to start operations in 2030.
The third project, located in Bateias, Paraná, will utilize renewable energy sources and has significant potential for expansion. With an investment of 6 billion reais, this data center is expected to commence operations in 2029.
DataSpots is currently in the early stages of development for these projects, focusing on obtaining necessary licenses, acquiring land, and finalizing financial structures. The company is also negotiating contracts with energy distributors and transmission companies to support these developments.
