Nokia to Deploy AI-Ready Network Solutions in Telefónica’s Edge Data Centers Across Spain

March 07, 2026
Nokia has been selected by Telefónica to deploy AI-ready network solutions across 17 new edge data centers in Spain, with 12 already operational, under an exclusive multi-year agreement.

Nokia will deploy AI-ready network solutions across Telefónica’s edge data centers throughout Spain, announced in a press release. The agreement gives Nokia exclusive responsibility for providing network connectivity for 17 new edge nodes, 12 of which are already operational, including Telefónica’s Tecno-Alcalá site.

The deployment supports Telefónica’s move to a distributed edge architecture designed to bring compute and storage closer to end users. The edge nodes will deliver AI, B2B, and Telco Cloud services for residential, enterprise, and public sectors, and will enable AI training and inferencing at the edge.

Nokia’s 7220 Interconnect Router and 7750 Service Router will provide connectivity within the data centers and link them to external networks. The project follows an initial rollout of three pilot edge data centers completed in 2024, positioning Nokia as Telefónica’s sole networking technology partner for the expansion.

The collaboration aims to simplify operations and unify architecture across Telefónica’s nationwide edge network while supporting Spain’s development of sovereign digital infrastructure.
