Czech Semiconductor Centre Opens in Brno to Boost Europe's Chip Independence
The Czech Semiconductor Centre (CSC) has launched in Brno, marking a significant step towards strengthening Europe's semiconductor independence, announced in a press release. The centre, located in a key region for chip design, will focus on innovation, prototyping, and supporting the growth of European fabless companies.
Led by Brno University of Technology in collaboration with Czech Technical University in Prague, onsemi, Codasip, the Czech National Semiconductor Cluster, and innovation agency JIC, the CSC aims to build a hub of excellence in chip design and education. The centre will provide mentoring, financial guidance, and access to advanced design tools and prototyping platforms, crucial for the growth of European SMEs in semiconductor design.
The Brno region's expertise in IP design, Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tool development, and electron microscopy further strengthens its strategic advantage in the semiconductor landscape. Notably, Brno is home to global leaders in electron microscopy, such as Thermo Fisher Scientific, Tescan, and Delong Instruments, which play a crucial role in semiconductor development and quality control.
Czech Semiconductor Centre is poised to contribute significantly to Europe's semiconductor value chain, reducing reliance on non-European chip production and enhancing the region's technological capabilities.
