CompTIA Report Highlights AI, OT, and Data Trends in Cybersecurity for 2025
The cybersecurity landscape is evolving as artificial intelligence, operational technology, and data management reshape risk and defense strategies, according to a new CompTIA report. The *State of Cybersecurity 2025* report shows that 81% of surveyed organizations now rank cybersecurity as a high priority, with more than 514,000 U.S. job postings for cybersecurity-related roles in the past year—a 9% increase from the previous period.
The report finds that most companies are still in early stages of using AI for cybersecurity, with 70% either learning about or testing AI tools on low-priority systems. Skills gaps remain a key challenge, with 45% of firms citing a lack of expertise in AI tools and 43% reporting deficiencies in basic cybersecurity knowledge.
Operational technology security is also gaining attention, as 58% of firms report a high focus on OT protection. CompTIA noted more than 184,000 job postings related to OT in 2024, reflecting growing integration between IT and OT teams. The report also highlights that 66% of organizations have dedicated staff for data security, underscoring the increasing importance of data protection.
To address workforce needs, companies are pursuing multiple strategies, including new hiring (56%), employee training (54%), and certifications (48%). CompTIA said a balanced approach combining early-career recruitment, reskilling, and cross-functional training will be essential for building cybersecurity capacity.
