Clarivate Unveils Nexus Connect for AI Access to University Resources

Clarivate has introduced Nexus Connect, an institutional AI gateway designed to connect university resources and services directly into major AI chat agents such as ChatGPT and Claude. The company announced the launch in a press release, describing the tool as part of its Academic AI Platform.

Nexus Connect uses the Model Context Protocol, an open standard that allows AI chat agents to access external data sources and tools. The platform provides students and researchers with entitlement-based access to their university’s licensed content and services from within their chat environment. It also enables libraries to maintain control over which services are exposed and how content sources are prioritized.

The system integrates with existing Clarivate products such as Alma and Primo, allowing users to search library materials, manage loans, and access full texts without leaving their AI chat session. Early adopters include five universities across North America and the Asia-Pacific region, with a broader early access program scheduled for July 2026.

Nexus Connect follows Clarivate’s earlier release of Nexus Extend, a browser-based academic assistant. Together, these tools are part of Clarivate’s strategy to embed trusted academic resources into AI environments while maintaining institutional security and privacy standards.
