CHRISTUS St. Vincent Adopts Perimeter Medical Imaging AI's OCT Technology

CHRISTUS St. Vincent becomes the first hospital in New Mexico to implement Perimeter Medical Imaging AI's S-Series OCT technology for real-time tissue margin visualization during surgeries.

CHRISTUS St. Vincent has become the first hospital in New Mexico to implement Perimeter Medical Imaging AI's S-Series OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) technology in its operating rooms, announced in a press release. This advanced imaging tool allows surgeons to visualize tissue margins in real-time, enhancing surgical precision and potentially improving patient outcomes.

The S-Series OCT technology provides cross-sectional 3D images of tissue microstructures at a resolution significantly higher than traditional imaging methods like X-ray, ultrasound, or MRI. This capability enables surgeons to make more informed decisions during procedures, reducing the need for follow-up surgeries due to unclear margins.

Dr. Amani Jambhekar, a surgical breast oncologist at CHRISTUS St. Vincent, highlighted the benefits of integrating this technology into surgical practices, emphasizing its role in improving patient care. The hospital, which offers the only Commission on Cancer accredited breast cancer program in northern New Mexico, aims to leverage this technology to enhance outcomes for breast cancer and melanoma patients.
