ChatGPT for macOS Now Edits Code Directly in IDEs

OpenAI's ChatGPT for macOS can now directly edit code in IDEs like Xcode and VS Code, available to Plus, Pro, and Team users.
OpenAI's ChatGPT for macOS has introduced a new feature that allows users to directly edit code within integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Xcode, VS Code, and JetBrains. This update is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, with plans to extend the feature to Enterprise, Edu, and free users next week.

The new capability builds on OpenAI's "work with apps" feature, which was launched in beta in November 2024, enabling the ChatGPT app to interact with code in various developer tools without the need for manual copying and pasting. This positions ChatGPT as a more direct competitor to other AI coding tools like GitHub Copilot.

Additionally, OpenAI has announced that the ChatGPT app for Windows will soon receive similar code editing capabilities, further expanding the tool's functionality across different operating systems.
