Atomic-6 Launches Marketplace for Orbital Data Centers

Atlanta-based startup Atomic-6 has introduced ODC.space, a marketplace that allows organizations to purchase on-demand orbital data center capacity, addressing AI-era energy and cooling challenges by moving compute into orbit.

Atlanta-based Atomic-6 has launched ODC.space, a new marketplace offering on-demand orbital data center capacity for AI developers, software providers, and government agencies, reports Hypepotamus.

The platform enables users to specify, price, and order computing capacity in orbit without building their own satellite infrastructure. Customers can choose between sovereign (organization-owned) or colocated (shared) capacity, with delivery timelines of two to three years—shorter than the five-year average for terrestrial data centers.

According to CEO Trevor Smith, the marketplace addresses power and thermal management challenges by leveraging space-based solar energy while coordinating cooling through specialized systems. The company’s ecosystem connects suppliers across the orbital data center supply chain to configure spacecraft based on computing requirements.

Atomic-6, founded in 2018, designs and manufactures its systems in Georgia. The company recently launched its first product aboard SpaceX’s Transporter 16 mission and plans additional launches later this year.
