Elemental Impact Launches Data Center Innovation Initiative with Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft

Elemental Impact has launched the Data Center Innovation Initiative, a new program aimed at accelerating sustainable infrastructure technologies, announced in a press release. The initiative brings together major technology companies including Amazon Web Services, Google, Meta Platforms, Inc., and Microsoft Corporation, along with philanthropic partners such as Breakthrough Energy Discovery and Builders Vision Philanthropy.

The program will invest between $500,000 and $5 million per project in up to ten technology startups through 2027. It will focus on deploying and testing new energy, materials, and cooling technologies in data centers or demonstration environments. Each project aims to validate solutions that improve energy reliability, efficiency, and emissions performance.

Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft will assist in identifying key technology areas, participating in project evaluation, and supporting deployment opportunities. The initiative will also provide expertise in financing, workforce development, and project scaling to help startups bring their solutions to market more quickly.

Technologies under consideration include energy storage systems, advanced electrical infrastructure, cooling innovations to reduce water and power use, and low carbon materials for construction. Results from each project will be documented and shared to reduce adoption risks and encourage industry-wide implementation.
