Anthropic Overtakes OpenAI in Enterprise LLM Market
Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI as the leader in the enterprise large language model (LLM) market, according to a recent report by Menlo Ventures. The report highlights that enterprise spending on LLMs has more than doubled in six months, reaching $8.4 billion.
Anthropic now holds a 32% market share, surpassing OpenAI, whose share has dropped to 25% from 50% in 2023. Google's Gemini models have also gained traction, securing 20% of the market. The report notes that inference has become the primary workload, with a significant shift from training.
The Menlo Ventures report also indicates that closed-source models dominate the market, powering 87% of enterprise workloads. The report predicts that long-horizon agents will drive the next major evolution in enterprise AI, with startups building agentic infrastructure poised to lead the next wave of AI transformation.
