Anthropic, the AI startup supported by Amazon and Google, is concentrating its efforts on developing generalist foundation models for enterprise applications, rather than venturing into hardware or consumer entertainment. This was highlighted by Anthropic's Chief Product Officer, Mike Krieger, during a fireside chat at the Human[X] conference on March 10.

Krieger emphasized that Anthropic's Claude AI models are designed to support a wide range of industries, focusing on practical applications rather than entertainment. The company offers different product tiers, including a consumer-oriented Claude.ai with a $20 monthly subscription, solutions for mid-market companies, and enterprise offerings.

Anthropic's recent collaboration with Amazon for the Alexa+ project exemplifies its strategy of leveraging partnerships to reach users, rather than developing its own hardware. Claude AI contributes frontier models and expertise, while Amazon provides a global distribution channel through Alexa's extensive device network.

Looking ahead, Anthropic aims to enhance the multimodal capabilities of its AI models, particularly in vision, to unlock new applications. Despite the potential impact of AI on job prospects, Krieger noted that Anthropic continues to hire engineers, as AI tools can enhance the efficiency of designers and product managers.
