Anthropic Unveils Claude Opus 4.6 with 1M Token Context and Enhanced Coding Skills

Anthropic has released a major update to its flagship AI model with the launch of Claude Opus 4.6, announced in a press release. The new version enhances coding performance, long-context comprehension, and reasoning abilities, introducing several new features for developers and enterprise users.

Claude Opus 4.6 introduces a 1 million token context window in beta, allowing it to handle significantly larger inputs while maintaining performance. The model also features improved coding, debugging, and code review capabilities, alongside stronger performance in financial analysis, research, and document creation tasks.

New developer tools include adaptive thinking, which lets the model decide when to engage in deeper reasoning, and effort controls that adjust the trade-off between intelligence, speed, and cost. The update also adds context compaction for longer-running tasks and supports outputs of up to 128,000 tokens.

In Claude Code, users can now create agent teams that collaborate autonomously on coding tasks. Additionally, Claude has received upgrades in Excel and a research preview integration with PowerPoint, enabling more seamless workflows across office tools. The model is available today on claude.ai, via API, and through major cloud providers at existing pricing.
