World Internet Conference 2025 Highlights AI’s Role in Digital Economy
The 2025 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit opened in Zhejiang province, focusing on global cooperation in digital intelligence and cyberspace security, according to PR Newswire. Officials and business leaders emphasized the importance of technological innovation, digital infrastructure, and inclusive development.
Li Shulei, head of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for efforts to enhance digital literacy, bridge the global digital divide, and expand international dialogue on digital governance. Zhejiang Party Secretary Wang Hao noted that the province’s digital economy now accounts for more than half of its GDP.
World Intellectual Property Organization Director General Daren Tang highlighted that China entered the top 10 of the Global Innovation Index for the first time in 2025, supported by a digital economy contributing about 10 percent to its GDP. He said the conference provides a platform for continued global collaboration and innovation.
Alibaba Group CEO Wu Yongming said the company is increasing investment in AI infrastructure and open-sourcing large language models to support developers worldwide. JD.com founder Liu Qiangdong predicted that advances in AI and robotics could reduce China’s logistics costs from over 14 percent to below 10 percent of GDP within five years, while creating new types of jobs and services.
