Weathernews Launches Smartphone App for SeaNavigator Marine Service

Weathernews Inc. announced in a press release the launch of a smartphone application for SeaNavigator, its AI powered marine weather service. The new app allows faster monitoring of vessel status and simplifies navigation decisions for land-based operators.

The application sends push notifications to dispatchers about navigation issues, vessel speed changes, and route adjustments. By using Automatic Identification System data, it automatically detects conditions such as drifting or reduced speed and notifies users. Dispatchers can review and approve route and speed recommendations directly from their smartphones.

According to Weathernews, trials showed that the workflow for updating voyage plans dropped from an average of 24 hours to around 6 hours. The app synchronizes voyage plan changes with the desktop platform in real time to ensure all team members have consistent information. Operators can select which notifications they receive, allowing them to focus only on relevant alerts when away from their desks.

Weathernews plans to add further features to support decision-making for departments beyond vessel operations, including sales and environmental management, aiming to increase operational efficiency across shipping companies.
