Volvo Cars Moves Android Automotive Development to Horizon

Volvo Cars will migrate its global Android Automotive software development environment to Horizon, an open source platform from Accenture and Google Cloud.

Accenture and Google Cloud announced in a press release that Volvo Cars will migrate its global Android Automotive Operating System development environment to Horizon. Volvo Cars will serve as the lead industry partner for the open source software development platform.

Horizon combines cloud native development tools, virtual testing environments and AI assisted workflows. It provides remote access to virtual and physical device farms, while virtual workbenches can be created in seconds.

The companies said Horizon can make software testing up to nine times faster through virtual Cuttlefish based Android Automotive environments. Build pipelines can return feedback within minutes instead of up to two hours, while infotainment feature development costs can fall by up to 40%.
