SpaceX Reduces Grok Bot Limits Over High Serving Costs

Nov 2, 2026
Elon Musk confirmed that Grok Bot usage limits were reduced because serving costs were too high relative to revenue. Some users saw their weekly usage jump to 100 percent without using the service.

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, confirmed that Grok Bot usage limits were reduced because serving costs were unsustainably high relative to revenue, TechCrunch reports. Some users saw their weekly usage rise from as little as 50% to 100% over the weekend, even when they had not used the agentic AI service.

Musk did not specify how the change will affect subscriber limits in the future. Grok Bot comes from SpaceX AI, the company's Super Intelligence division.

A recent company filing said AI accounts for 52% of SpaceX income. The Super Intelligence division recorded a profit of $431 million after $1.2 billion in one time costs related to its acquisition of Cursor.
