SORA Technology Secures $4.8M to Expand Drone Health Initiatives in Africa
SORA Technology, a Tokyo-based startup, has successfully raised $4.8 million in a late seed funding round to expand its drone and AI-powered health infrastructure across Africa. The funding round included participation from Japanese institutional investors such as Nissay Capital's Sustainability Challenge Fund, SMBC Venture Capital, DRONE FUND, Central Japan Seed Fund, and Rheos Capital Works.
The company, founded by Yosuke Kaneko in 2020, is currently operational in six African countries: Ghana, Sierra Leone, Benin, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, and Kenya. SORA Technology collaborates with governments, research institutions, and global health organizations to tackle infectious diseases and climate-related health risks. Its flagship program, SORA Malaria Control, uses drones for vector control and AI-driven disease forecasting tools to predict outbreaks and inform public health responses.
The newly acquired funds will be used to advance SORA's AI algorithms for disease prediction, scale field operations, enhance its drone fleet, and strengthen collaborations with African governments and international agencies. The company also plans to expand its team in Africa and Japan to support its growing operations.
SORA Technology's innovative approach, combining drone technology with artificial intelligence, aims to provide scalable solutions to public health challenges in regions with limited medical infrastructure. The company's participation in the G7-backed Triple I (Impact Investment Initiative) for Global Health further underscores its commitment to enhancing global health outcomes through technology-driven solutions.
