Ask Shipt turns written requests, recipes and meal photos into editable shopping carts based on customer preferences and budgets.

Shipt announced in a press release the launch of Ask Shipt, an AI shopping assistant available through its app and website. The service turns written requests, recipes and uploaded meal photos into personalized shopping carts.

Customers can use the assistant to plan meals, prepare for events, find items within a budget and check store promotions. They can review, replace or remove its recommendations before checkout.

Ask Shipt appears below the search bar after a customer selects a retailer. The delivery service, which is owned by Target, offers products from more than 100 retail partners.

Shipt is not alone in shipping this feature. Instacart announced its own conversational shopping assistant, Clementine, on the same day, also built around turning a prompt, list or photo into a ready-to-buy cart.
