Scale AI Announces $129 Million Investment to Advance Applied AI in Canada
Canada’s national AI innovation cluster Scale AI has announced $128.5 million in funding to support 44 new applied artificial intelligence projects across the country. The investments bring the organization’s total commitments over the past six months to more than $226 million, representing its largest funding round to date.
The new projects span multiple sectors, including healthcare, energy, transportation, and public infrastructure. Examples include AI systems to improve healthcare coordination after radiation therapy, automate municipal infrastructure management, and enhance power outage response for electric utilities. Other initiatives involve generative AI applications for local news support and machine learning tools for risk detection and operational optimization.
The funding event, held at League’s headquarters in Toronto, was attended by government officials and project partners. The projects reflect a growing trend of interprovincial collaboration, with a two-to-one private-to-public investment ratio indicating strong industry participation.
Scale AI, based in Toronto and Montreal, operates as Canada’s federal innovation cluster for artificial intelligence. It supports commercialization of AI technologies by co-investing in industry-led projects and fostering collaboration among over 500 partners from research, business, and government sectors.
