Saronic to Build $3 Billion Port Alpha Shipyard in Texas

July 17, 2026
Saronic announced plans to construct Port Alpha, a $3 billion shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, aimed at boosting U.S. shipbuilding capacity and supporting autonomous maritime systems. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with operations starting in 2028.

Saronic announced in a press release that it will build Port Alpha, a new shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, with more than $3 billion in planned investment. The facility is intended to expand U.S. shipbuilding capacity and support the production of autonomous maritime systems.

The project will cover an initial 835 acres at the Port of Brownsville, with potential expansion to nearly 4,400 acres. When complete, Port Alpha will include shipbuilding and manufacturing facilities for vessels up to 850 feet, with future upgrades to support ships over 1,200 feet. Construction is set to begin in 2026, with operations targeted to start in 2028.

Saronic stated that the new shipyard will generate about 10,000 direct jobs and provide significant economic impact both locally and statewide. The company plans to collaborate with Texas educational institutions to create workforce development and apprenticeship programs to support long term industrial growth.

Port Alpha follows Saronic’s earlier acquisition of a shipyard in Franklin, Louisiana, where the company is investing $300 million to expand production of its 180-foot Marauder autonomous vessel. Together, the two facilities represent a broad effort by Saronic to strengthen domestic shipbuilding capacity and advance software based naval manufacturing.
