Samsung Reports Up to 52% Downlink Gain From AI vRAN

Samsung says its virtualized radio access network tools improved downlink throughput by up to 52% and reduced energy use by up to 35% in live network deployments.

Samsung Electronics said in a sponsored article that its virtualized radio access network provides a software based foundation for adding AI to mobile networks. The architecture separates network software from dedicated hardware and runs network functions on commercial servers using CPUs and GPUs.

The company reported that its RAN Speed Optimizer delivered a maximum 52% improvement in downlink throughput on a live 5G network. Its Energy Saving Manager reduced total energy use by up to 35% in a commercial deployment in the United States.

Samsung also said its Network in a Server supported an Integrated Sensing and Communication field trial with a major United States operator. The company expects vRAN infrastructure to support AI native air interfaces, distributed intelligence and other planned 6G functions through software updates and additional computing resources.
