Proton Releases Lumo 2.0 with New Models, Image Tools, and Encrypted Memory

Swiss company Proton has launched Lumo 2.0, a major update to its privacy-focused AI assistant. The upgrade introduces new AI models, image generation capabilities, user-controlled memory, and a tier for business users. All data in Lumo 2.0 remains protected by zero-access encryption.

Lumo 2.0 includes two new models: Lumo 2.0 Max and Lumo 2.0 Lite. The flagship version improves benchmark performance by 240 percent compared to the earlier release and now includes two response modes. Fast mode speeds up everyday answers by up to 76 percent, while Thinking mode uses additional computation for complex reasoning tasks with a visible reasoning process.

The update adds multimodal image tools that let users upload, analyze, edit, and generate images within one chat. A new memory feature allows the assistant to retain context and preferences across sessions, encrypted and fully user-controlled. The upgraded web search function now delivers live results with citations for greater transparency.

Proton is also introducing Lumo for Business, which provides encrypted team collaboration tools, centralized management, and European data hosting. Lumo 2.0 is available on the web, iOS, and Android platforms with free and paid tiers. The assistant’s code remains open source for public verification of its privacy claims.
