Philips Report Highlights AI's Potential in Healthcare Amid Trust Challenges

Royal Philips' Future Health Index 2025 report emphasizes AI's transformative potential in healthcare, while highlighting trust gaps among clinicians and patients as a barrier to adoption.

Royal Philips has released its 10th annual Future Health Index (FHI) report, which underscores the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in global healthcare systems. The report, announced in a press release, reveals that while AI can significantly reduce care delays and manage data overload, trust gaps among clinicians and patients pose a significant barrier to its widespread adoption.

The FHI 2025 report highlights that in over half of the 16 countries surveyed, patients face long waits for specialist appointments, with some waiting up to four months. This delay has led to worsening health outcomes, with 33% of patients experiencing deteriorating health due to these delays. The report also notes that more than 75% of healthcare professionals lose clinical time due to incomplete or inaccessible patient data, contributing to clinician burnout.

Despite the optimism among clinicians regarding AI's benefits, the report identifies a significant trust gap with patients, particularly those aged 45 and older. Concerns about accountability and data bias further complicate AI's adoption in healthcare. The report calls for regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with patient safety to build trust and ensure AI's effective integration into healthcare systems.
