Overland AI Demonstrates Autonomous Ground Vehicle at Project Convergence

Overland AI showcased its autonomous ground vehicle capabilities at the U.S. Army's Project Convergence Capstone 5, integrating its technology into the SMET vehicle for uncrewed breaching operations.

Overland AI has successfully demonstrated its full stack ground autonomy capabilities at the U.S. Army's Project Convergence Capstone 5 (PC-C5), announced in a press release. The event, held at Fort Irwin, California, featured Overland AI's integration of its OverDrive software stack and SPARK hardware infrastructure into the General Dynamics Land Systems' Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) vehicle.

During the two-week exercise, soldiers from the 27th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, independently operated the upgraded SMET vehicle, executing breaching missions without direct human control. The demonstration included payload integrations such as a mine-clearing UAS and a drone launcher, showcasing the tactical benefits of removing humans from dangerous missions.

Overland AI's participation in PC-C5 supports the Sandhills Project's objectives and highlights the company's ongoing collaboration with the U.S. Army. The 20th Engineer Brigade has taken possession of the upgraded SMET vehicle for further experimentation, with Overland AI providing field support and software licensing as part of their contract.
