OpenCxMS Files 15 Patents for Hardware Safety Standard in AI Robotics

OpenCxMS Technologies has filed 15 patents within 13 days for the Standardized Autonomous Safety Module, an open hardware and software standard designed to enforce safety in AI-controlled robots.

Pennsylvania-based OpenCxMS Technologies has filed 15 patents over a 13-day period for what it describes as the first hardware safety standard for AI-controlled robots, announced in a press release.

The filings, made between February 4 and February 17, 2026, cover 134 patent claims across software governance, hardware enforcement, and supporting infrastructure. The company’s proposed Standardized Autonomous Safety Module (SASM) introduces a dedicated safety processor positioned between an AI system and the physical world. This processor operates independently from the AI’s main compute and can cut power within 10 milliseconds without requiring software intervention.

OpenCxMS, organized as a Pennsylvania Public Benefit Corporation, said the SASM is intended as an open standard applicable across robot platforms. The company documented over 100 AI engineering sessions and conducted prior art searches against more than 200 existing patents as part of the development process.
