OpenAI Expands Stargate with Five New AI Data Centers

OpenAI, in collaboration with Oracle and SoftBank, is set to build five new AI data centers across the U.S. as part of its Stargate project, announced on their website.

OpenAI, in partnership with Oracle Corporation and SoftBank Group Corp., is expanding its Stargate project by establishing five new AI data centers across the United States. This expansion, announced on their website, aims to increase Stargate's capacity to nearly 7 gigawatts, which is sufficient to power over 5 million homes.

The new data centers will be located in Shackelford County, Texas; Doña Ana County, New Mexico; an undisclosed location in the Midwest; Lordstown, Ohio; and Milam County, Texas. The sites in Texas, New Mexico, and the Midwest are being developed with Oracle, while the Ohio and Milam County sites are in collaboration with SoftBank.

This initiative is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to enhance its AI infrastructure, with a goal to secure a full $500 billion, 10-gigawatt commitment by the end of 2025. The project is expected to create over 25,000 onsite jobs and tens of thousands of additional jobs across the U.S., marking a significant step in advancing AI capabilities and infrastructure.
